Indonesia and Turkey Strengthen Strategic Partnership in the UAV Industry through Joint Venture Agreement

Jakarta, February 12, 2025 – Indonesia and Türkiye have entered a new era of strategic defense cooperation with the signing of a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) between Baykar Makina and PT Republikorp (Republik Korpora Indonesia). The signing ceremony was witnessed by President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and President of Türkiye, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, rearming both nations' commitment to strengthening the defense industry through local manufacturing and technology transfer.

This agreement represents a strategic step towards enhancing national defense autonomy while deepening Indonesia-Türkiye bilateral relations. As regulators, facilitators, and primary users of the national defense industry, the Minister of Defense of Indonesia, Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, and the Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries, Haluk Görgün, were also in attendance.

Partnership for UAV Production in Indonesia

As part of this collaboration, Baykar Makina and PT Republikorp have signed a Joint Venture Agreement (JVA) to enhance Indonesia’s defense capabilities through the local production of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) systems. The agreement was signed by Baykar CEO, Haluk Bayraktar, and PT Republikorp Chairman, Norman Joesoef.

Through this partnership, Joint Venture Company (JVC) will be established in Indonesia, focusing on the manufacturing, assembly, and maintenance of UAVs. The primary products to be localized include up to 60 sets of Bayraktar TB3 Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) and up to 9 sets of Bayraktar Akinci High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE). This initiative is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the aerospace industry and enhance national defense self-sufficiency.

Baykar will contribute its expertise in manufacturing, technology transfer, and training, while Republikorp will ensure regulatory compliance, infrastructure development, local expert certication, and integration into Indonesia’s defense ecosystem.

Focus on Technology Transfer and National Capacity Building

As part of this collaboration, Republikorp will take an active role in localization eorts, including the establishment of production facilities and supply chain management, ensuring operational eciency and the sustainability of Indonesia’s aerospace industry. 

Collaboration with the Ministry of Defense will ensure that the UAVs produced align with Indonesia’s strategic needs, including national security, territorial surveillance, and defense operations. This initiative represents Indonesia’s commitment to advancing national defense technology for the future.
